Wine at THE PIGs
Raising a glass to the best homegrown bottles and beyond
We are big fans of the fruit from our own soil
At THE PIG, we love nothing more than talking about wine all night long with anyone who will listen! Loving local is in our DNA and we're big supporters of English wine. Take one look at our PIG Wine Menu and you’ll spot a sizeable chunk (over 50!) dedicated to talented winemakers here in the UK.
The bottles on our menus are all down to our dedicated teams and valued relationships with our suppliers. Our Wine teams are the ones that live, drink, and breathe the bottles that we hold in our cellars - seeking out the very best is truly what courses through their veins!
From our very own patch...
We have such a big passion for wine, it was inevitable we would venture into creating our own – and, when we acquired THE PIG-in the South Downs in 2021 (which came with its own small, but perfectly formed, vineyard) … well, it was meant to be!
In October 2023, our team took to the 4,000 vines of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier at our West Sussex PIG, and our very first wine harvest took place, marking a huge milestone for the start of our winemaking journey.
But that’s not all – alongside harvesting our own vineyard grapes, in 2023 we finally popped the cork on our first bottles of PIG English Fizz! Full of the heart and soul of East Sussex, our two, brand-new sparkling wines are made with local grapes from Bee Tree Vineyard, owned by our friends Dermot and Ana Sugrue of Sugrue South Downs.
… if that’s not enough excitement, we’ve also been hard at work renovating the vineyard at THE PIG-at Groombridge, originally planted in the 1980s with the then more fashionable Germanic grape varieties. We couldn’t be prouder to be on this exciting journey of PIG wine, and truly living our homegrown ethos of leaving the land in a better place than when we found it.
