Outdoor Eating at THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay

Winter at The Lobster Shed

Menu change for the colder months

Dishing up only fresh and seasonal ingredients, it’s goodbye for now to our whole Lobster dishes (but not forever) at The Lobster Shed, and hello to some new warming Lobster dishes, winter catch and local land produce...

Lobster Shed Chef

Our local Lobsters are landed in Padstow and other North Cornwall ports, whilst plentiful during the spring and summer months, during the autumn and winter months Cornish Lobsters are few and far between.

So at this time of year our Lobster Shed menu will take on a slightly different look. We may not always be able to feature whole and half lobsters, but fear not, Adam and his team have been busy creating some new winter warming Lobster dishes such as his delicious Padstow Lobster ‘Scampi’ as well as Lobster & Brown Crab Bake and Johnny Murt’s Lobster Bisque. It may also be the case that during these months, our lobsters may come from elsewhere in the British Isles and as a consequence sadly the price is likely to move up a little.

Alongside this, we’ll be serving up the best Cornish seafood we can get our hands on, as well as in-season produce from our local suppliers across land and sea.

Expect a relaxed menu of mix and match dishes with smaller plates of Potted Mackerel and Padstow Crab Risotto Balls, to bigger portions of ‘Bakers’ Potatoes with Caramelised Onions and Braised Hogget Shoulder... not to mention some new nostalgic puds to finish off with.

So we very much hope you will enjoy the seasonal twist on the theme during these months, naturally the same bluesy soundtrack will still be there to put you in that laid back mood.

Lobster Shed Food

Pull on something warm and get ready for some seriously tasty outdoor winter eating, complete with heaters, blankets and mulled cider, all enjoyed with views of the Cornish countryside. If the skies are clear, we’ll pull back the roof so you can dine under the winter sun. Don’t forget to bring your brolly and wellies for the trip down on the wetter days!

We serve in line with seasons, which means our much-loved Lobster dishes will be making a come-back in spring 2022.

The Lobster Shed will be open throughout the winter months 12pm – 5pm, Wednesday – Sunday.

Open with ‘under canvas’ roof

All Day Dining – 12pm – 5pm Thursday - Sunday

The Lobster Shed has a retractable roof and sides which covers the majority of tables so you can enjoy the sun when it's shining, but be protected from the elements on the cloudier days. We know that our hot, sunny days can be few and far between, but you can bet that we'll be making the most of it – whatever the weather! So, dress appropriately and come with a pioneering spirit – we can’t wait to see you! We are a hardy bunch and will keep serving unless we have strong winds or extreme weather, The Lobster Shed team will make a call that morning as to whether we will need to close for the day. All bookings for that day will be contacted BY EMAIL to let them know that their booking will need to be re-arranged for a future date.

If no table times are available when you book online it's because all pre-booked tables have been taken. We welcome drop-in dining at The Lobster Shed with no need to book, however we operate on a first-come first-served basis.

Please be aware though we do our very best to accommodate walk-in diners, there is a possibility that we will not be able to find you a table on our busier days so we would absolutely encourage you to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

The National Lobster Hatchery

The National Lobster Hatchery is a marine conservation, research and education charity based in Padstow, who have established themselves as a centre of expertise in marine science on a global scale. Their work focuses on the European lobster, a commercial species that is the most valuable fish caught in the UK and is part of a major export industry; this one species alone is worth £45m each year and without it, the small coastal communities would have very little, other than tourism, to create jobs and keep the harbour alive. Lobster is worth a huge amount economically and socially, and consequently, fisheries around the world are suffering from major over-exploitation.

NLH Transparent Background

The charity’s conservation work focuses on enhancing the stocks of lobsters in the coastal waters of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. A female lobster can carry in the region of 20,000 eggs under their abdomen, however only one of these is expected to survive in the wild. With skilful and careful application of modern technology The National Lobster Hatchery can improve this survival rate significantly. For every lobster sold at The Lobster Shed we will donate £1 to The National Lobster Hatchery’s ‘Buy One – Set One Free’ campaign. By supporting our local fisherman and using local lobster we are reducing their food miles – when they could have been headed for London or exported directly to Spain and France.

The National Lobster Hatchery also have a Visitor Centre so you can learn all about their work and meet the lobsters.
