Things to do at THE PIG-in the Cotswolds

We really recommend heading to these beautiful fishing grounds, which are also home to the oldest working trout farm in the country! We can pack you off with a PIG picnic to take with you, or you can pre-book one of the 10 brick barbecues on site to cook your fresh catch.

This famous, pretty row of former Weaver Cottages are owned by our friends at The National Trust and are strung out along the banks of the River Coln, nestled in the charming town of Bibury.  

This award-winning museum holds all the great discoveries from the Roman town of Corinium (which we know today as Cirencester) under one roof. Immerse yourself in an interactive experience of 200,000 years of archaeology, social and rural history that’s perfect for all ages to enjoy.

This indoor market of local traders sells a range of quality goodies from clothing, Persian rugs, art, jewellery, wood, carpets and toys and is open Sunday to Thursday.

“Ciren”, as it’s known to locals is nicknamed the “Capital of the Cotswolds”. There are plenty of markets and independent shops to explore, from fascinating antique emporiums and craft shops to farmers markets and collectable markets. Plus, there are a number of beautiful parks within easy walking distance from town.

This stunning wetland landscape is brimming with over 180 lakes and home to tens of thousands of breeding and watering birds. It’s an ideal destination for watching wildlife in the heart of nature all year round – not to mention the huge range of activities to enjoy from archery to golf and cycling to water sports.

Visit the UK’s largest inland beach and paddling lagoon, just a 20-minute drive away from us at THE PIG-in the Cotswolds, and home to The Cotswolds Water Park. Pay per car, rather than per person, and you’ll have full use of the beach, play park, swimming lagoon, traversing wall and walks around the lake.

This transformed farmyard is packed with a tasty food hall, bakery, design showrooms, and fashion boutiques. You’ll also find a hair salon, Pilates classes, osteopathy, co-working spaces, fitness facilities – and a full calendar of events! There’s also a farmer’s market every first and third Sunday of the month.

What was once a petrol station is now a handsome hotchpotch of wooden buildings, locally crafted yurts and little paddocks, just down the road from us. Enlivened by plants, flowers, fruit and veg, the concrete forecourt is now a convenient and characterful place to stock up on local goodies.

An independent brewery in Cheltenham with a real focus on hoppy beers, lagers, traditional UK styles and mixed fermentation ales. Their on-site taproom is nestled in the heart of the brewery and is open every week for fresh tins and delicious draft pours. 

We warmly recommend a visit to the market town of Tetbury, just a 30-minute drive away. It’s famous for its Grade I listed village halls and rows of fantastic antique stores, filled with treasures – the perfect place to spend an afternoon.

Home to King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Gardens of Highgrove in Tetbury are open between April and October to explore. From the Kitchen Garden to its famed “Thyme Walk”, and the wildflower meadow to the elegant Sundial Garden, the estate is managed organically with sustainability in mind, and has become a vital habitat for diverse wildlife.

This quintessentially British town is nestled in rolling hills and is famous for its historic market square with antique shops, elegant buildings and stocks dating back to the 15^th century. It’s just under 30 minutes away from us at THE PIG-in the Cotswold and is well worth exploring.  

Fiona and Niall Shiner had been living in Hong Kong for 18 years when they returned to Britain in the early 2000s to take on Niall's parents' property at Amberley – and Fiona decided to plant some vines there. Now, she produces over 100,000 bottles every year… and the awards speak for themselves! Visit the vineyard for a tour and a tasting, and make sure you stop into their Cellar Door shop before you go.

Visit this Tudor jewel with 1,000 years of history, where Queen Katherine Parr (King Henry VIII’s only wife who survived) lived and is buried. Discover the castle’s rich, royal history and explore the beautiful grounds and adventure playground, less than 45 minutes away from us.

The home of jump racing! This open-air racecourse is full of events all-year-round from the New Years’ Raceday and the infamous Cheltenham Festival to concerts all throughout the summer.

A 200-year-old Mogul Indian palace set in seriously romantic gardens. Visit the tea rooms in the beautiful conservatory, and book onto a house tour to explore the many hidden gems in this weathered-copper house and curved orangery.

Established in 2020, Diddly Squat Farm Shop was the brainchild of Jeremy Clarkson after realising that potatoes did indeed grow well on his farm – he accidentally produced 40 tonnes of them! From there, with his partner Lisa, he bought hives and began to produce and sell “bee juice”, along with apple juice and other delicious homegrown treats. 

Explore one of the finest medieval buildings in the country and its role in the Arts and Crafts movement, filled with fan-faulted cloisters, the Great East Window, the vaulted-roof Lady Chapel and stunning stained-glass windows dating from 1350 to present day.

A little further afield, nestled in the quaint village of Woodstock, is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill: Blenheim Palace. Walk around the house and the beautiful grounds that are full of wildlife and rivers.
