THE PIG-in the South Downs

Unwind in the countryside

Tucked away in one of the most unspoilt pockets of the English countryside, THE PIG-in the South Downs is the perfect patch for pressing reset this summer.

From exploring hidden emerald gems of English vineyards on our doorstep, to stargazing under the South Downs Dark Sky Reserve, you'll find plenty to drink in across our West Sussex corners of culture, country hills and coastlines. Here's a taster of what your stay could look like…

It's Friday. Your weekend is just about to begin…

Arrive at our house at your own pace (most likely greeted along the winding roads leading to our driveway by our neighbourly pheasants!) and toast to the start of your escape with some freshly muddled drinks out on the terrace.

Sit back to the sounds of live, local music in the late afternoon sun and, when it's time to eat, head inside to our glass restaurant - or stay rooted outside on the terrace - to enjoy your first PIG supper from our 25 mile menu.

And as the morning rolls in…

Ease into the day by grazing on some homemade treats from our breakfast tables - or tuck into some freshly cooked hot breakfast dishes - with an unbeatable view. Look out to the endless green of our very own PIG vineyard tucked at the bottom of the house, and peek into the fields where our resident sheep and pigs live.

Stretch your legs with a gentle wander through the Kitchen Garden before heading out to explore Arundel, just 10 minutes away. It's full of quirky antique shops, cosy little cafes, and is home to the spectacular Arundel Castle.

When the day opens up…

Venture to one of the many local English wineries on our doorstep and unwind with a tour and tasting. Our friends at Wiston Estate are less than 30 minutes from the house in the picturesque village of Pulborough, and the family-founded Tinwood Estate Vineyard is just a stone's throw from us at THE PIG-in the South Downs.

...and as the afternoon turns golden…

After a full day of exploring, head back to our place to relax on a garden chair for golden hour. Take the chance to spot some of our resident birds of prey - majestic Red Kites and elegant Kestrels - perhaps with another glass of something local that could be from the very vineyard you visited this afternoon.

And then, when the sun goes down…

Wind down with a long, leisurely supper in our restaurant and, when the sun sets, head outside onto the lawn to see the spectacle of the night sky. Nestled in the heart of a Dark Sky Reserve, free from the distraction of city lights, looking up at the stars here is a view seriously not to be missed.

And while you're at it, keep an eye out for our local bats. The South Downs is home to several species, including the very rare Greater Horseshoe and Mouse-Eared breeds - a reminder that the wildlife here is as extraordinary as the landscape.

Take Sunday slowly

Seize the chance to take a slow, sunny morning walk along the coast - the idyllic sandy shores of West Wittering Beach are just 15 minutes away and one of our best kept secrets. Or head for a run along one of our favourite local routes through the winding countryside - we've got plenty of local loops to hand.

For a gentler way to Sunday, why not start your morning in the peace and quiet of the garden and unwind with a relaxing Potting Shed treatment from our PIG therapists, to really soak up every drop of you time.

Before heading home, hop to one of our favourite South Downs treasures for lunch - a cracking local pub. The Six Bells in Lyminster is just 6 miles away, packed with cosy fireplaces, a great beer garden and, most importantly, fantastic food.

Our guest favourites also include a little treaty trip to the neighbouring villages - The Black Horse in Amberley or The Black Rabbit in Arundel, nestled right next to the River Arun.
