Post-school half term, November sees Dorset return to the pace of yester-year with clear country lanes, deserted beaches, refreshing sea swimming and restaurants where you can simply turn up and get a table.
Thanks to the Gulf Stream, coastal Dorset stays milder than much of the UK. Expect fresh sea air and gentle walks, rarely interrupted by frost or snow (though we can think of worse places to be snowed in!).
Rain keeps Dorset lush and green, with wildflowers, ferns, and coastal plants making even a wet walk wonderful. And a pleasing 4.2 hours per day in November—making it one of the sunniest spots in the UK.
Winter can leave you feeling under the weather, but the sea air’s saline mist soothes the respiratory system—so a seaside escape really can be good for mind, soul, and body. The Victorians were onto something.
