Leave the week behind in the New Forest.

(because planning is overrated)

Some of the best weekends start with a last-minute decision. A gap in the diary, a sudden urge to get away, a bottle of something good waiting to be opened.

THE PIG, in the New Forest is tucked away in the heart of the New Forest National Park, surrounded by ancient woodland, free-roaming ponies and miles of countryside to explore. With a Kitchen Garden at its heart, charming villages nearby and the forest on its doorstep, it's the sort of place where plans can wait. No agenda required. Just fresh air, good food and a slower pace of life.

The kind of few days you didn't plan, but ended up being your favourite.

We're often asked which PIG to book for a spontaneous stay. THE PIG-in the New Forest has a way of making the decision for you.

Ancient woodland, open heathland, picturesque villages and free-roaming ponies around every corner. Add a Kitchen Garden that shapes every menu and some of the best walking routes in the country right on the doorstep, and it's easy to see why. Pack a bag, head for the forest and leave the rest to us.

24 unplanned hours at
THE PIG, in the New Forest

Morning

Wake up slowly. Views from the house stretch across the gardens and out towards the New Forest beyond, worth pausing over with a cup of tea before breakfast. The grazing table is ready when you are, the garden team are already gathering the day's pickings, and the forest is quietly coming to life outside. No need to book, no rush to be anywhere.

Late morning

Pull on your boots and head out into the New Forest. Footpaths from the doorstep wind through ancient woodland, open heathland and wide forest clearings, with plenty of fresh air and the chance of spotting a pony or two along the way. Take your time exploring, this is the sort of place where the outside world quickly feels very far away.

Or venture a little further to nearby Lyndhurst or Beaulieu, both within easy reach and perfect for an unhurried wander. Browse independent shops, stop for a long lunch and discover a little more of what makes this corner of the New Forest so special.

Lunch

Back at the house, the greenhouse restaurant is the best seat in the building - floor to ceiling glass, vineyard views and a 25 Mile Menu that changes with what's been picked that morning. Take your time. Linger as long as you like.

Afternoon

A treatment in one of our peaceful treatment rooms is never a bad idea. Or, if you'd rather be out exploring, head into the New Forest for an afternoon of wandering woodland trails, spotting free-roaming ponies and discovering hidden corners of the National Park.

You could also visit nearby Beaulieu, explore the picturesque village of Buckler's Hard, or browse the independent shops and cafés in Lyndhurst. Whatever takes your fancy, there's plenty to discover within easy reach of the hotel.

Evening

A cocktail in the bar before dinner, mixed with ingredients inspired by the Kitchen Garden and the changing seasons. The wine list is packed with bottles from across England and beyond, perfect for discovering something new or settling in with an old favourite.

Dinner follows at a leisurely pace in the heart of the house. The 25 Mile Menu is shaped by ingredients from the Kitchen Garden, local producers and the surrounding New Forest landscape, making every plate a reflection of the season and this special corner of Hampshire. A nightcap. Bed.

The Next Morning…

Wake up slowly, again. The grazing table is ready when you are, and if you're feeling curious, join the daily Kitchen Garden tour to see what's growing, what's being picked and what might be appearing on the menu later that day. The gardens, polytunnels and greenhouse are at the heart of everything here.

Then either check out at your own pace or, if you've booked an extra night, head out into the forest for one last wander beneath the trees, breathe in some fresh New Forest air and do the whole thing again.
