rolling countryside, warm breeze, tipples on the green

Long summer days in Somerset

THE PIG-near Bath

This is when our Bath hideaway really comes into its own

With long, sun-soaked days settling over the rolling Mendip Hills, summer brings the countryside to life with colour, wildlife and warm air that lingers well into the evening. There’s every excuse to spend a little longer outside, glass in hand.

From fresh, garden-led feasting in our restaurant to outdoor, wood-fired dining at the Garden Oven, summer here is all about the open air. Think countryside walks, live music drifting through the garden and long, lazy afternoons that roll effortlessly into warm evenings, summertime, the PIG way.

Step Outside: Summer Walks & Garden Wanders

Just steps from our doorstep you’ll find the rolling Mendip Hills, shady woodland walks and gentle rambles that show the West Country at its summer best, think wildflower meadows, sun-dappled paths and big, open views across the hills. Follow footpaths through patchwork fields, or take a scenic spin into nearby Bath for a wander through honey-hued streets and along the canal.

Our team has pulled together some of their favourite local walks, perfect for working up an appetite before lunch on the terrace or stretching things out after a slow, sunny breakfast.

Pull on your shoes

Outdoor eats at the Garden Oven

Soak up every last drop of al fresco-fuelled afternoons this spring and enjoy wood-fired pizzas with good company at our Garden Oven, tucked just outside the hustle and bustle of the main house.

Simply rock up and grab a table to join us for an afternoon bite or a quick drink – there’s no better place to down tools and settle in for some garden-inspired grazing and a cold one!

Swing by the Garden Oven

Unwind in the Potting Sheds

Our treatment rooms are some of our favourite spots to hide out, tucked away in the peace and quiet of the Kitchen Garden. Sinking into a massage, facial or scrub while the rest of the world does its thing feels like a really good kind of treat.

It’s time carved out just for you.

Golden hour: Buttered & Baked

After a long, countryside ramble, there’s only one sensible next step. Settle in for Buttered & Baked - generous, comforting and proudly un‑fussy, ‘perfect-for-3pm’ kind of moreish treats.

Think warm, savoury, cheesy, buttery bites and plentiful homebaked sweet things to finish. It’s the perfect pairing for a mid-week spring wander, whether you’re staying the night or just dropping in.

Have teatime, THE PIG way
