Breakfast in Southampton
A proper breakfast, tucked inside the city walls
Mornings at THE PIG-in the wall start quietly. The fire's lit and the coffee's on, and the Grazing Table fills up with pastries, fresh juices, Dorset yogurts and seasonal fruit while the Old Town outside is still rubbing its eyes. We're the smallest in our litter, all rustic tables, low sofas and cosy corners. It feels less like a hotel breakfast room and more like being let into somewhere the rest of the city hasn't noticed yet.
Help yourself for as long as you like and add a Piggy Pan if you're properly hungry. By the time you've finished your second coffee the city will be up and about. The walls, the waterfront and the shops of Westquay are all an easy potter from the front door whenever you're ready to go.

Sailing from Southampton? The docks are right on our doorstep, so there's time for a slow breakfast by the fire before you join the queue. It's far nicer than setting off hungry, and much less faff than hunting for somewhere near the terminal.
This is the kind of breakfast where you meet a friend at nine and look up at eleven. Grab a sofa, order another pot of tea and put the world to rights.
Fuel up before a mooch round Westquay or the independents in the Old Town. Nobody ever regretted tackling the shops on the back of a Piggy Pan.
No occasion needed. A grey Tuesday, a brolly by the door and a seat by the fire are reason enough on their own.
