a countryside sunday worth staying for

Sundays in the South Downs

THE PIG-in the South Downs

Sundays, made for lingering

At THE PIG-in the South Downs, Sundays follow the rhythm of the seasons and, as we head into the warmer months, our full Sunday lunch menu is pressing pause so our fresh, summer showstoppers can take centre stage. You’ll still find a couple of our classic roast offerings on our 25 mile menu… just with a fresh Sunday line-up that celebrates the best of long, lazy lunches and leisurely suppers made for the sunshine season!

Soak up every well-earned drop of sunshine around tables filled with some serious summer showstoppers. Think crunchy, seasonal veggies from the Kitchen Garden at their very best, fresh-off-the-boat seafood, and our chef's summertime favourite plates – best enjoyed with something cold in your glass, and long, unhurried conversations.

Gather for an easy, laid-back Sunday lunch at ours and book an outdoor table on our restaurant terrace for a supper with unbeatable views out to the endless green of our first ever PIG vineyard, and gentle, countryside air.

A long, easy Sunday over at ours

Make a day of it, at THE PIG‑in the South Downs

In our book, Sundays are the best day of the week – and, in our house, they’re not just about carving out a couple of hours for lunch. It’s the final full stop on the last 7 days and you deserve to slow down, unwind and enjoy every minute of it. Take a pause and unplug with a gentle walk through the Kitchen Garden, eat well, linger afterwards (there’s no rush to have the table back here), and let the afternoon unfold naturally. Read a book on the terrace, enjoy a tipple on the grass, save room for a summer pudding to tuck into at golden hour, surrounded by the soothing soundtrack of nature. There’s no rush, no clock‑watching and no pressure to be anywhere else. Just good food, good company and a whole Sunday to enjoy it.

Start with a wander (and work up an appetite)

Arrive with time on your side and head out for a stroll across the grounds or into the surrounding countryside. The South Downs are made for Sundays - open skies, rolling hills and plenty of space to stretch your legs.

You’re also welcome to join one of our free daily Kitchen Garden tours, where our gardeners share what’s growing, what’s going into the kitchen, and what might be turning up on your plate later that day. It’s a lovely way to ease into the afternoon and get properly hungry.

Ease in with a pre‑lunch drink

Before lunch, settle into the bar for a good glass of something. Whether it’s warming, refreshing, fun or simply your favourite – whatever you’re drinking is a great tipple in our book. Ours is the sort of place where “just one more” easily becomes part of the ritual.

Take your time at the table

It’s the season of seriously good lunches outdoors, and our 25 mile menu is brimming with a new summer line-up of seasonal dishes and showstoppers that were made for sharing. Settle in and relax in the restaurant or pull up a chair at a table on the outdoor terrace - our courses come gently and conversations stretch. This is the heart of the day - a proper feast from the 25 mile menu, best enjoyed with good wine and good company.

Turn Sunday into a full reset

If you don’t fancy the drive home, make it an overnight stay. Head upstairs to one of our seriously cosy bedrooms, wake up to the calm of the countryside, and start Monday with a proper PIG breakfast and nowhere you need to be just yet. Sometimes, the best Sundays end on Monday morning.
