rolling hills, warm breezes, vineyard views
Long summer days in the Downs

This is when our South Downs hideaway really comes into its own
With long, golden days and warm evenings that seem to stretch on forever, summer settles gently over the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park. The countryside is alive with colour and wildlife, and there’s every excuse to linger a little longer outside, glass in hand.
From fresh, garden-led feasting in our glass restaurant to chilled pours of crisp rosé on the terrace overlooking the vineyard, summer here is all about slowing down and soaking it all in. Think garden walks, live music drifting through the air, and long, lazy afternoons that roll easily into warm evenings, summertime, the PIG way.

Step Outside: Summer Walks & Garden Wanders
Just steps from our doorstep, you’ll find the rolling South Downs National Park and plenty of countryside rambles that show the Downs at their summer best, think sun-dappled woodland, wildflower meadows and big, open views across the hills.
Our team has pulled together some of their favourite local walks, perfect for working up an appetite before lunch or stretching things out after a slow, sunny breakfast.

Unwind in the Potting Sheds
Our treatment rooms are some of our favourite spots to hide out, tucked away in the peace and quiet of the Kitchen Garden. Sinking into a massage, facial or scrub while the rest of the world does its thing feels like a really good kind of treat.
It’s time carved out just for you.

Golden hour: Buttered & Baked
After a long, countryside ramble, there’s only one sensible next step. Settle in for Buttered & Baked - generous, comforting and proudly un‑fussy, ‘perfect-for-3pm’ kind of moreish treats.
Think warm, savoury, cheesy, buttery bites and plentiful homebaked sweet things to finish. It’s the perfect pairing for a mid-week spring wander, whether you’re staying the night or just dropping in.

Summer Events & Live Music
This season at THE PIG-in the South Downs is about good food, great company and the occasional soundtrack.
We’ll be hosting live music evenings, relaxed garden gatherings and seasonal events that celebrate what’s coming out of the ground right now.
Think acoustic sets, informal feasts, and the kind of evenings that start with “just one drink” and end much later than planned.
