Leave the week behind in the Devon countryside.

(because planning is overrated)

Some of the best weekends start with a last-minute decision. A gap in the diary, a sudden urge to get away, a bottle of something good waiting to be opened.

THE PIG-at Combe is tucked away in a secluded Devon valley, surrounded by ancient woodland, rolling countryside and far-reaching views. With a Kitchen Garden at its heart and the best of East Devon on its doorstep, it's the sort of place where plans can wait. No agenda required. Just fresh air, good food and a slower pace of life.

The kind of few days you didn't plan, but ended up being your favourite.

We're often asked which PIG to book for a spontaneous stay. THE PIG-at Combe has a way of making the decision for you.

A secluded Devon valley, rolling countryside on your doorstep, the Jurassic Coast waiting to be explored and a Kitchen Garden that shapes every menu. Pack a bag, head for East Devon and leave the rest to us.

24 unplanned hours at
THE PIG-at Combe

Morning

Wake up slowly at THE PIG-at Combe, with views across rolling Devonshire hills and gardens that change with the seasons. Throw open the windows and let the fresh country air drift in while the Kitchen Garden team busy themselves with the morning's harvest. Beyond the house, ancient woodlands, winding footpaths and the Jurassic Coast await, but there's no need to rush. Whether it's a meander through the grounds, a long breakfast or simply another cup of tea overlooking the valley, the day is yours to take at your own pace.

Late morning

Pull on your boots and head out into the Devon countryside. Trails weave through ancient woodland, open fields and quiet lanes straight from the house, with rolling hills and far-reaching valley views around every corner. Take your time exploring; this is the sort of landscape made for a gentle stomp, a leisurely meander and a healthy dose of fresh country air.

If you'd prefer to venture a little further afield, the Jurassic Coast is just a short drive away. Hidden coves, dramatic cliffs and sweeping beaches await, whether you're in the mood for a coastal walk, a spot of fossil hunting or simply watching the waves roll in. There’s plenty to discover, but no need to hurry, Devon is best explored at its own pace.

Lunch

Back at the house, take a seat in the restaurant and settle in for a long, lazy lunch or an evening spent overlooking the Devonshire hills. Our menus are shaped by what’s growing in the Kitchen Gardens and arriving from trusted local farmers, fishermen and producers, with every dish celebrating the flavours of the season. Take your time, order another glass from the wine cellar and stay a little longer. There’s no rush here, just good food, good company and the simple pleasure of lingering at the table.

Afternoon

A treatment in one of our Potting Sheds is always time well spent. Tucked away in the grounds and surrounded by rolling Devonshire hills, they're made for slowing down and switching off.

Or pull on your boots and head out to explore. Wander through ancient woodland, follow winding country lanes or make the short journey to the Jurassic Coast, where dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and sweeping beaches are waiting to be discovered. A breath of fresh air comes as standard around here.

Evening

Settle into the bar before dinner and take your pick from a cocktail list inspired by the Kitchen Gardens and surrounding countryside. Or perhaps a local cider, a craft ale from nearby, or a glass of English wine from the cellar. Whatever takes your fancy.

Then it's through to the restaurant, where the menu is shaped by what's growing in the gardens and arriving from local farmers, fishermen and producers. Every plate reflects the season, celebrating simple flavours and ingredients at their very best.

Take your time over dinner. Order another glass. Stay a little longer as the evening draws in.

A nightcap by the fire. Then bed.

The Next Morning…

Wake up slowly, once again. Breakfast is waiting when you are, and our Kitchen Garden tour offers a glimpse into what's growing, what's being picked and what might appear on the menu later that day.

Then it's time to head home. Or perhaps stay a little longer. One last stroll through the grounds, one more coffee overlooking the valley, and a final dose of Devon fresh air before doing it all again.
