A getaway to Combe

a trip away doing very little (or a lot!)

When you turn down the long drive to THE PIG-at Combe, the Otter Valley does the rest. Hidden within 3,500 acres of Devonshire countryside, with wild beavers in the river and the Jurassic Coast just eight miles away, this is a PIG made for slow mornings, proper walks and a little bit of treasure hunting along the way.

Not sure how to spend your time at THE PIG? Here's a taste of what your day might look like…

Slow mornings made better

Wake up to birdsong and the sound of the estate stirring - perhaps a horse or two from the Arabian stud farm next door. Ease into the day with a cuppa in bed, or pull on a pair of our Barbour wellies and wander down to Catshays Farm, where the Kitchen Garden team might be feeding our Gloucester Old Spot pigs among the orchards.

Plus a breakfast worth waking up for

Fuel up with a proper PIG breakfast - eggs fresh from the hens, our grazing table loaded with local cheeses, jams and baked goods.

Feeling cheeky? A Bloody Mary never goes amiss.

Take a peek into our veg beds

Join our Kitchen Gardeners for a free daily tour everyday at 11am and see what's sprouting, blooming or ready for picking - the same beds that shape tonight's menu.

Wander off to wild swimming and antiques country

Afternoons here are made for exploring, and the choice is half the fun.

Head to Fluxton Weir near Ottery St Mary for a spot of wild swimming - a natural pool, a rope swing and willow trees lining the bank of the River Otter, one of the only rivers in England with wild beavers.

Or follow the doorstep trails through ancient oaks and open plains, a brisk 3 miles or a proper 6-mile loop out to Gittisham village.

Fancy market towns instead? Honiton, Devon's antiques capital, is well worth a wander - especially on a Tuesday or Saturday when the market fills the high street. Or head to the coast, eight miles away, and walk the clifftops from Sidmouth towards Beer.

Unwind in the Potting Shed

Tucked away in the Kitchen Garden, you'll find our homely wooden huts brimming with charm and calm: our Potting Shed treatment rooms.

From soothing massages to bespoke facials, these rustic retreats are the perfect spot to recharge your batteries and simply be.

Or simply pop your feet up, glass in hand

Settle into a comfy corner of the bar with a book, a board game, or a cheeky tipple (or two).

And then feast like a Pig!

Dinner is the main event. Our 25 Mile Menu showcases the very best of the season, and our sommeliers are always on hand with a good story about what's in your glass - not least the local cider that put this county on the map.

Stay a little longer in the bar before heading back for a quiet end to the evening.

The Next Morning…

Another slow start, another grazing table, another chance to relax a little longer. Before you go, there's time for one more wander - a final look at the veg beds, a stop in Wells or Glastonbury, or simply one more walk into the hills.

Whether you're packing up or staying put, the rest of the day is yours.

Settle in for the night

Some of our rooms have wood burners or freestanding baths - light the fire, run the water, and drift off to the sound of the Mendips outside.
