…which is why we’ve decided to pair the perfect stay with a course all about wine!

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 Award in Wine is perfect for those wanting a beginner-level introduction into the world of wine. With the expert guidance of our resident wine guru, Luke Harbor, you’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the skills to describe wines accurately and make food and wine pairings. Best of all, it’s a small, intimate group, so you’ll have plenty of time to ask questions, share laughs, and bond with fellow wine lovers as you learn together over some good bottles of wine!

£750 for two people sharing in a Comfy Luxe room, or £500 for one person in a Comfy Luxe room.

Arrive at 9:30am at THE PIG-at Combe where you’ll meet Luke and your fellow wine enthusiasts for tea, coffee and fresh pastries in the Georgian Kitchen. Here you’ll dive into the essentials of wine-tasting, learning how to see, sniff, sip and savour a variety of wines.
After you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll tuck into a sharing feast of fresh garden pickings before continuing your wine education through the afternoon. Over lunch you can also start checking into your rooms if you wish! The course finishes with a short exam to make sure you’ve absorbed the essentials before coming together for a celebratory glass of fizz and Piggy Bits in the Wine Cellar.
The rest of the evening can be spent at your leisure enjoying a 3-course dinner from our 25 mile menu before collapsing into a bed so comfy you won’t want to leave!
Wake up in the morning to a full, hearty PIG breakfast in the restaurant where you can dig into our PIG grazing breakfast tables, pick something hot (or tuck into both!)

A Devon local, and THE PIG’s Group Beverage Director, Luke’s thirst for knowledge (yes, pardon the pun!), has seen him gain many wine and spirits qualifications over the years. He became a qualified WSET trainer so that he can share his passion and expertise with others. A Master of Wine in training, Luke likes to make people feel at ease with wine, taking away anything pretentious and promoting the simple enjoyment of it.
