Let’s talk touch therapies…

Harpreet Ghatora, Head of our Potting Shed treatment rooms, tells us more about holistic Cancer Care treatments across THE PIGs

For many years, massage for those going through a cancer care journey was a grey area.

I distinctly remember being taught in college that individuals who had cancer could not have a massage (shocking, I know!). So, let’s break this down a little…

You may know that a holistic, or a complimentary, treatment is designed to improve your wellbeing, your mood and your state of self. All of this has an impact on your body – not only energetically, but also on a cellular level. So, it goes without saying that holistic therapies have a place for any person going through a cancer journey. It’s a no brainer in my book.

Here at THE PIGs, we have always offered treatments for guests on their cancer journey. In the beginning, we would always have to ask for a doctor’s note and disclaimers would have to be signed... in my opinion, this stripped away the holistic part of the experience from the very beginning. It instantly creates a medical or clinical type of environment, which is the opposite of what we are trying to achieve.

Thankfully, we now don’t need to do any of this – though, of course, our therapists always appreciate any information you feel we need to know about you that could enhance your treatment experience.

Our therapists have been put through professionally recognised qualifications that specialise in the theory and the practical training on how to carry out Cancer Care treatments. This means that, not only do we have the practical skills, but we are fully loaded with up-to-date theory that can ensure you receive a tailor-made experience and are safe and cared for during the whole process from start to finish.

What do our Cancer Care treatments involve?

Our PIG Potting Shed therapists can massage the whole body, or focus on one area such as the hands, face, shoulders, or feet. This means you do not always need to remove clothing to have a massage if you do not feel comfortable to do so – this is your treatment experience, and we will do what we can to make sure you are comfortable.

These bespoke treatments may help you:

  1. Feel better and improve your quality of life.
  2. Feel less stressed, tense, and anxious.
  3. Sleep better.
  4. Cope with some of the symptoms or side effects of your cancer treatment.
  5. Feel more in control.

All treatments on our menus are available for you to book and our treatments aren’t gender specific, so, irrespective of your gender and how you identify, you can have any treatment of your choosing.

Your treatment will finish with a tea infusion that is handpicked using herbs and plant extracts from our very own PIG Kitchen Gardens.

Lastly, let’s talk safety.

Wherever possible, always ask your treating physician if it is OK for you to have a holistic treatment alongside your cancer treatment.

And, remember, our Potting Shed therapists are always here to talk ahead of your visit. Like everything across THE PIGs, we want you to have the most relaxing, enjoyable time with us, to help you leave feeling rested, looked after and cared for. To find out more, click here.
